Jewel Custom Jazz mouthpieces combin the warmth and resonance of a large bore hard rubber blank with the projection and superior tone direction of a metal blank forming a truly special mouthpiece. A hand crafted baffle is inserted into the mouthpiece creating unique chamber that channels airflow for a dynamic sound quality.
Stainless steel mouthpieces were developed for increased life and for their different tonal quality.
The reflective nature of stainless steel results in a brighter, more edgy sound.
The insert is made of high grade black ebonite.
This is where it all started! Since 1945 Berg Larsen's mouthpieces were manufactured from black ebonite (hard rubber) which is the traditional material for mouthpieces. Ebonite has certain absorbent qualities which give a more resonant tone.
The GAIA alto has a traditional full sound similar to a vintage Meyer Bros. alto mouthpiece. It is designed for a traditional full and rich sound with very good projection. Also, due to its True Large Chamber, it has an even bigger, fuller sound than the vintage mouthpieces. It is incredibly rich sounding and is both fun and inspirational to play.
