DENIS WICK GOLD PLATED TRUMPET MOUTHPIECE - DW4882 |
| DENIS WICK GOLD PLATED TRUMPET MOUTHPIECE - DW4882 |
Denis Wick enjoys an international reputation as a virtuoso trombonist and brass teacher. He was Principal Trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years and was for many years a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Mr. Wick interest in mouthpiece design began when he evolved his own mouthpiece after many years of careful experimenting. In consultation with Britain's finest brass players, Denis Wick began to develop better mouthpieces, using both traditional and new ideas.
All Denis Wick Mouthpieces have been individually designed and continually modified under Mr. Wick's personal supervision until absolute perfection of tone quality and intonation has been achieved.
Denis Wick offers silver-plated and gold-plated mouthpieces.
Silver plating is widely used among brass players because of its
“bite” (the tendency of the mouthpiece to stay in one place on the
embouchure) and its brilliant, projecting tone. Gold plated
mouthpieces are preferred by musicians that favor a softer feel,
darker tone and better response.

Design based on the mouthpiece used on the F trumpet by John Solomon, principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra 1904-1936. This was done in 1972, under the supervision of John Wallace, OBE, then co-principal of the LSO.
The sound quality is rich and dark, with a powerful presence, able to ride over a modern brass section. It demands a strong embouchure and breath control. The HeavyTop version gives even more power. Both are strongly favoured by orchestral 2nd trumpeters.
