The worlds finest French horn just got better; the new H105 replaces Holtons previous H104 flagship model. The pursuit of perfection has created a new-generation French horn known for its performance and superb intonation. The Holton H105s technological and acoustical flexibility enables the artist to perform accurately in a wide range of performance situations. Its two interchangeable mouthpipes with newly developed tapers make it easy to switch between work in small chamber ensembles and large symphony orchestras. The small-venturi mouthpipe is more focused for chamber orchestra and high-register work. The large-venturi mouthpipe is more free-blowing, creating an excellent orchestral horn. The specially tempered red brass bell produces a rich, dark sound capable of great volume without getting brassy.
This instrument is a full (not compensating) double, requiring no compromise of intonation on valve combination, as is the case with compensating designs. The fifth valve is a Bb-F rotor. The fourth valve is a muting valve that lowers the horn 3/4 step to bring stopped horn mutes into tune; no transposing is necessary. Extra fourth slide puts Bb horn in the key of A, so written E horn parts do not have to be transposed.
An easy-blowing and responsive single horn, the Collegiate model H650 allows clean execution of notes due to its smaller taper in the mouthpipe and venturi and its short-stroke rotary valve action. A fine horn for introductory students.
A versatile horn quite appropriate for high school and college marching band and orchestral performance. Model H177 offers a bright, compact feel and sound. It includes a hand-fitted rotary valve system, string linkage, separate Bb tuning slide and change lever designed to fit the thumb in a natural position. Nickel silver material is extremely corrosion resistant.
The solid nickel silver edition of the H178, model H179 has especially good center and projection. This free-blowing horn features a rich, dark sound designed especially for the ?big horn? artist; the tapered tubing and throat of the bell are larger for a bigger, darker tone. The bell flare produces a mellow, velvety tone plus a little overtone of a ringing quality. Hard nickel silver responds quickly and sounds brighter up close. The most popular Farkas model.
The H378 has similar playing characteristics to those of the H178, with a bright, compact feel and sound. Yellow brass produces a higher tone color with more overtones for clearer projection. Capable of playing piannissimo staccato notes clearly and evenly.
The H379 is an extraordinary artist-quality instrument at a popular price. It has playing characteristics similar to model H179, but with a darker sound. It has a good center and projection. Harder nickel silver material responds quickly and sounds brighter up close. Hand-fitted rotary valves are manufactured to precise tolerances to provide quick and effortless response.
Plays very much like the F side of the Farkas H178. It has a bright, compact feel with an excellent center, focus and projection. Its sound is dark, but with a singing tone and excellent legato characteristics. An ideal student horn.
